Printing
Solmentes Press specializes in the printing of short-run ( from 25 to 500 copies) limited editon letterpress books and prints (woodcuts, wood engravings and linocuts). We also print small editions of digital prints using archival pigment inks.
The commission
The publisher, or whoever wishes to have a book or other material printed invites us to consider a commission, or provide an estimate of costs which if acceptable forms the basis for a contract that details the scope of the commission, fees and payment schedules. It usual to schedule payment in two installments, the first part due on agreement of the contract.
Letterpress printing
A fully-automatic Heidelberg KSBA cylinder press is used that has a maximum sheet size of 460 x 585 mm (18 x 23 ins), and printable area of 410 x 560 mm (17 x 21). We are looking for an iron hand press to compliment the Heidelberg.
Digital printing
Two inkjet printers are used:
Epson Stylus Photo R2400, maximum paper width: single sheet – 13", roll paper - 13". Maximum printable area 13" x 44". Maximum single sheet – 13 x 19".
Epson Stylus Pro 3800, maximum sheet size – 17 x 22". Both printers use 8-color Epson UltraChrome K3 pigment-based inks, with three levels of black.
